Helpful Tips:

  • Create a binder with a calendar of due dates, printed copies of all your applications, & essays. Leave out in a space where it will remind you to work at least once a week.

  • Create a student resume that contains all your accomplishments in academics, athletics, service, and employment. It should look similar to a work resume. Include amount of time/hours spent at work or service.

  • Have 4-5 letters of recommendation written by various influential people in your life that know you as the "whole, well-rounded" student. Ask for an electronic copy like a google doc that the name of the organization or dates could be changed easily. Give the person your student resume along with the request so they have your background information.

  • Create a google drive folder with all your typed essays-label them to reuse with an indicator such as, "heavy service" or "athletic awards". Reuse them by changing names, dates etc.

  • Create an email address (not your school issued) that you will use just for scholarhsip searches.

  • Sign up for services like:  https://www.fastweb.com/https://weirdscholarships.nethttps://studentscholarships.org/

  • Don't ever pay for scholarship searches or scholar organizations, that is a clear indicator it is a scam.

  • Make a habit of searching for scholarships on your own. Look up things related to you. Ex. scholarships for color guard, scholarships for people with diabetes, scholarships for Veteran's children etc

  • We invite you to "like" the LA Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) Facebook, instagram, or twitter page for valuable scholarship info & college savings tips:   https://www.facebook.com/pg/LOSFA/posts/?ref=page_internal
